The Royalty Theatre Youth Academy

The Royalty Theatre Youth Academy (RTYA) is open to young people aged 14 to 20 and will run once a week on a Thursday evening from 6.30pm until 9.30pm. The sessions will take place in the Studio Theatre at the Royalty. This three-hour period will be split into three, one-hour subject lessons. The first hour will remain fixed as an hour of acting training and skills based development. The second hour will be based around a different aspect of stage performance each term, beginning with dance and followed by singing in the second term. The third hour will focus on the technical side of the theatre, looking at skills such as set design, lighting and sound.

We aim to produce a variety of productions throughout the year, ranging in style and themes, we will also offer a week long summer school. Alongside this we are putting in place a framework to enable us to offer London College of Music and Media exams in Acting. These exams come at an extra cost but do equate to extra UCAS points, which can aid university applications. We also would like to offer the opportunity to compete in Speech and Drama festivals giving the students a chance to pit their skills against other performers of the same age. As the Academy students will need to be junior members of the theatre they will also be given the opportunity to watch live theatre at the Royalty free of charge. There will be no session fee for the night of the productions.

All of the teachers are CRB checked in line with current child protection legislation. All the tutors are trained, qualified and professionally experienced in their individual fields. Alongside this there is full public liability insurance in place.

The fees for the weekly session will be £8.50 if paid on the day, although discounts are available for households with more than one child attending, or for those wishing to pay the full term in advance (monies not refundable in case of non-attendance).
