The Royalty Theatre Youth Academy

Are you looking for something to fill your time? Somewhere where you can learn new skills and make new friends? A place where you'll be challenged and helped to succeed? Do you have an interest in the theatre?

We meet every week on a Thursday 6.30pm - 9.30pm at the Royalty Theatre, Sunderland. During this time you spend time working on Drama, Music and Dance. Looking at different areas with in each subject you'll gain an all-round understanding of the theatre - including lighting, sound and set design when we are preparing for a full scale show.

Whatever your interest in the theatre you'll cover it with us. Join the 40 students, ages 12 to 20 who are already part of this growing youth theatre. For £8.50 a week or £80 a term you'll become part of the experience, making new friends and learning more about yourself and your talents. INTERESTED?

Throughout the year we stage a variety of productions, looking at different styles and themes, we also offer summer schools. If formal qualifications are what you're after we offer the opportunity to enter London College of Music exams which, if good marks are achieved over several grades can lead to UCAS points and help you get into Uni. If competition is what you enjoy you can also enter speech and drama festivals throughout the north east, pitting your skills against others the same age as you.

Academy students will need to be junior members of the theatre; this is a yearly membership fee due at the beginning of each season. This membership entitles the student to a watch productions free at the theatre, which is something we all do together.

All of the teachers are CRB checked in line with current child protection legislation. All the tutors are trained, qualified and professionally experienced in their individual fields. Alongside this there is full public liability insurance in place.
