Welcome to the homepage of the Royalty Theatre, Sunderland. Based in the north east of England, we are non-professional and staffed entirely by volunteers. Other than the support we receive from our play sponsors, our funding is entirely self-generated.

The Royalty Theatre proudly presents it's Christmas pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and now is your chance to be part of it.  There are parts available for all ages including principle roles and chorus opportunities.

Simply turn up at the Studio Theatre on the 3rd September at 7pm for an evening of fun workshops, dont worry if your not experienced, the audition process is informal and above all fun and enjoyable.

....you will need to be available for rehearsals from September, and for the show run from the 10th - 18th December.

NEW SEASON STARTS WITH CLASSIC COMEDY

Even though it's the height of summer, we are preparing behind the scenes for the 2010-11 season at the Royalty. 

The new season will begin on Mon, Sept 27th with 'Blithe Spirit' by Noel Coward. This classic supernatural comedy was last staged at the Royalty in 1985 and our new production is guaranteed to provide plenty of laughs, as well as the odd chill down the spine.

Author Charles Condomine asks the eccentric medium, Madame Arcati to hold a seance as research for his new book. But she only succeeds in summoning the spirit of his dead first wife, Elvira - much to the dismay of his second wife, Ruth!

Laced with witty asides and improbable happenings, 'Blithe Spirit' will be directed by Jude Elphinstone and Irene Lathan, and produced by Pauline Craig. Tickets will go on sale in early September and we are pleased to be able to keep the cost the same as last year, £7.50. However, we have had to make a small increase in our concessions rate from £6 to £6.50.

Season tickets for all seven shows will also go on sale early next month, at a reduced price from last year to make them even better value. We will also have more details soon of how you can become an active member of the Royalty Theatre for just £1.

Our other plays in the 2010-11 season are 'Journey's End' (World War One drama); 'Jack and the Beanstalk' (traditional panto); 'MacBeth' (Shakespeare tragedy); 'The Unexpected Guest' (Agatha Christie mystery); 'Funny Money' (rip-roaring comedy) and 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (musical).
