Welcome to the homepage of the Royalty Theatre, Sunderland. Based in the north east of England, we are non-professional and staffed entirely by volunteers. Other than the support we receive from our play sponsors, our funding is entirely self-generated.

YOUTH ACADEMY TAKE CENTRE STAGE

Although the official main stage season has now ended, we have one final production to bring you before we close for the summer.

As you will see from the poster on the right, our talented Youth Academy is staging 'After Juliet' by Sharman MacDonald, from July 15-18. This is a modern play which speculates on what might have happened next following the curtain coming down on Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'. Combining drama, dance and music the show will be performed by two different casts on alternate nights. Tickets are £7.50 and are available either on the night at the Royalty, or in advance from Reynold's Outdoor Centre in Derwent Street (0191 565 7945).

Incidentally, this will be the last production for which Reynolds' store will sell tickets directly; from the start of next season booking arrangements will be in the capable hands of the Tourist Information Centre in Sunderland. I would like to thank Peter and Lorna Reynolds for the many years service they have provided for the theatre, while at the same time running their own business.

Regular audience members will be relieved no doubt to hear that they still plan on being involved in the Royalty and will be a regular presence on front of house. We will publish more details later in the summer about our new booking system.

NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Following the AGM last month I am delighted to welcome onto the executive committee Rob Lawson, Ian Tulloch, Gary Ward and Chris Young.

Along with my newly-appointed vice-chair, Anna Snell and new artistic director, Corinne Kilvington I am sure they will make a positive contribution and prove valuable members of the committee.
